Luxury yachts often capture attention because of their size and design, but few reflect the personality and long-term thinking of their owner as clearly as "Kismet."
Owned by billionaire entrepreneur Shahid Khan, the 400-foot vessel earned the title of Superyacht of the Year 2025 and stands among the most recognizable private yachts in the world. Yet its story extends well beyond lavish interiors and impressive engineering.
Shahid Khan, the owner of Flex-N-Gate, one of the 60 largest privately held companies in the United States with $9.3 billion in annual revenue, has built a reputation for making thoughtful business decisions.
Alongside his automotive business, he owns the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and English Premier League club Fulham F.C. His approach to yacht ownership follows the same practical mindset, blending luxury with functionality and long-term value.
More Than a Luxury Yacht

Unlike many ultra-luxury vessels that remain strictly private, "Kismet" serves multiple purposes. The yacht is known for hosting business gatherings, sporting celebrations, and private events while also operating in the high-end charter market, where weekly charter rates exceed $3 million.
Khan believes that the setting itself creates a memorable experience. "Absolutely. Nobody's ever turned down a yacht party."
He explained that invitations to hotels or luxury resorts are common, while an invitation aboard a yacht such as "Kismet" carries a different level of excitement. According to Khan, guests often rearrange their schedules because the experience feels truly unique.
The current yacht represents the third "Kismet" commissioned by Shahid Khan. Built by Lürssen in Germany, the vessel combines exterior styling by Nuvolari Lenard with interiors created by Reymond Langton Design. Interior direction came from Shanna Khan, a real estate developer, investor, and interior designer whose creative vision shaped many of the yacht's living spaces.
Each new version has incorporated lessons learned from previous builds. Instead of repeating familiar ideas, the design team focused on improving how every area functions while preserving an elegant atmosphere.
Built for Entertainment and Practical Use
Although "Kismet" includes luxurious spaces inspired by historic architecture, every design decision also considers daily use.
Khan explained: "We're always thinking about how the boat will be used."
For example, the main salon draws inspiration from Versailles, yet it is designed to comfortably host several hundred guests during large events. Every space balances visual appeal with practical performance, allowing the yacht to accommodate both intimate gatherings and major celebrations.
Material selection follows the same philosophy. Since the yacht regularly hosts large groups, finishes are chosen not only for appearance but also for durability and ease of maintenance.
A Smart Approach to Chartering
Owning one of the world's largest superyachts also involves careful market research. Rather than designing solely around personal preferences, Khan studies how charter guests use similar vessels.
He explained: "We spend time watching who charters the biggest yachts and we study how they use them."
Because constructing a superyacht takes several years, future guest expectations influence many decisions during the design process. New technologies, updated layouts, and practical improvements are considered early so the yacht remains competitive once completed.
This approach has helped "Kismet" attract high-profile charter guests, including Beyoncé and Jay-Z, while maintaining its reputation in the luxury charter market.

One lesson from Khan's earlier yachts focused on guest accommodations.
He noted: "It's good to have all the cabins same size so you're not forcing guests to pick one over another."
Instead of offering a single standout suite alongside smaller rooms, the yacht features cabins designed to provide a similar premium experience. This thoughtful arrangement creates a more balanced environment where every guest enjoys comparable comfort and privacy.
The concept reflects a simple idea: every cabin should feel like a VIP suite.
Every Deck Has Its Own Character
Large yachts sometimes feel repetitive because each level follows the same design language. Khan wanted a different experience aboard "Kismet."
He described his vision by saying: "You don't want to feel like you're on just one massive vessel."
The lower levels maintain a more formal atmosphere, while upper decks gradually become relaxed and casual. As guests move throughout the yacht, each level offers its own identity instead of repeating the same layout and décor.
Khan added: "Each deck feels like you're on a different boat... when it's done with good taste it has a huge wow factor."
This layered design creates variety without sacrificing harmony across the vessel.
"Kismet" represents more than an impressive superyacht. Its design reflects careful planning, with every space created to improve guest comfort, functionality, and the overall onboard experience. From equally sized VIP-style cabins to versatile entertainment areas, each feature serves a practical purpose alongside its luxurious appearance.
This thoughtful approach has helped establish "Kismet" as one of the world's most recognized superyachts while reflecting Shahid Khan's preference for combining smart design with lasting value.
